The record player is spinning one of my favorite artists, and one of my favorite songs just came through the speakers.
“In My Life” has always spoken to me. The Beatles originally recorded the song, but that is not the version that I like. It is Jose Feliciano and his guitar that strike a chord with me. There is something haunting about his rendition.
There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more
It is an awesome song, and Jose does it well. You should give it a listen.
I know the song — both versions — very well. Lately, “our” song has been Emmy Lou Harris’ version of “Pancho and Lefty.”
I need to look that up. I have never heard her version.
I like hearing cover versions of songs when they really work. His arrangement of Light my fire is really good. Greg Allman cover his own song midnight rider. It was completely different from his Allman Brothers version. I can’t think of any other artist that covered his own song with a different arrangement, Except for maybe Eric Clapton who covered Layla with an acoustic version which I really didn’t care for but it worked and sold a lot of records.
That would be an interesting read for me. “ Artists who covered their own songs “.
That has probably happened more than we realize. It happens a lot in concerts. It’s like they think they need to show their continued artistic ability instead of playing what people want to hear.
I didn’t like the acoustic of Layla, either. Jose covered a lot of stuff, and I think he did most of them well.
This is a sweet song. I recall Judy Collins did a nice job on it too.
I need to listen to her version.
