Greetings and Salutations

First, I am a Tennessean. A lot of people look at my state and think of country music, mountains and hillbillies. However, it has a lot to offer. Nashville, the closest major city to my home, is a cosmopolitan place with a wide variety of culture and opportunities. I have lived in the area all of my life and have never seriously considered living anywhere else. I love to visit other places. In fact, I have been to every state and numerous foreign lands. There is nothing better than traveling and returning home.

Second, I am a historian. I teach at a small, private, liberal arts university and enjoy my job tremendously. Filling young minds with history is a fulfilling occupation. However, it does not pay many bills. Therefore, I also own rental property (some accuse me of being a slumlord, but I’m not). Until the economic crash, I was a developer. Well, I am still a developer, but there just isn’t much developing going on.

Third, I am a blogger. This is totally new to me. Honestly, I always thought blogging was a waste of time. Nobody cares what I think or do. It seemed like a cool thing to do, though. And who knows, someone out there might find a few things I say interesting (just like my students).

I don’t know about ‘caring’ for what you have to say or write but I do find this blog interesting…so far 🙂 Keep at it.

Thanks for the award. I will definitely accept such an acknowledgement. What are the rules for acceptance?

Awesome! Wonderful blog. Nice to meet a historian here. I will be reading your posts regarding history then 🙂 Thanks!

I’m always happy to write about history and happier to know that people want to read about it.

I want to be a career diplomat in the future so I’m kind of investing in world history 🙂 The past affects the present and future so I think that everyone should at least read their history.

I have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. It is a genuine pleasure to draw from the well of such an informed, intelligent and entertaining mind. Sometime we must still organize a western film roundtable.

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate that. We definitely need to get the western film discussion going.

Thank you. I know a little about him. He lived in the same area that I do and is in our local hall of fame. From what I have read, he was a great musician.

There is no shame in being a Tennesseean. You guys have Dolly.

Dolly is awesome. A true Renaissance Woman. Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment.

Sir, I really enjoy your writing . I love anything WWII because it is true. However, you forgot to mention General Arnold and Aunt Jamima. Gen. Arnold went to Castle Heights and Aunt Jamima was from Lebanon . Keep up the good work and next Oct. look me up at CHMA homecoming. if you will contact me , your 11:30 am lunch will be on me.

    • Rick November 6, 2015 at 13:59 #

Thank you for commenting. It’s always good to hear from people who have intimate knowledge of Lebanon. I will research the General and learn more about him. Lunch and conversation about Lebanon’s past will be great.
